Strength weakening and its micromechanism in water–rock interaction, a short review in laboratory tests

Abstract Water–rock interaction (WRI) is a topic of interest in geology and geotechnical engineering. Many geological hazards engineering safety problems are severe under the WRI. This study focuses on water weakening rock strength its influencing factors (water content, immersion time, wetting–drying cycles). The mass decreases to varying degrees with cycles depending type mineral composition. corresponding acoustic emission count intensity infrared radiation also weaken accordingly. WRI enhances plasticity reduces brittleness. Various microscopic methods for studying pore characterization mechanism were compared analyzed. should be adopted evolution comprehensively.
